홍콩 공항, 공중 디지털 디스플레이 스크린, 위태롭게 흔들려
9월 5일, 토요일 오전, 홍콩 국제공항 제2터미널 출국장 천장에 매달려 있던 원형 전자 디스플레이 스크린이 오작동으로 수 미터 아래로 추락했다가 비상 안전장치가 작동하여 공중에서 스크린을 붙잡았다.
다행히 인명 피해는 없었으며, 당국은 여행객들에게 즉각적인 위험은 없다고 확인했다. 홍콩 공항 당국은 이번 사건을 중대하게 받아들이고 있으며, 기계 고장 원인에 대한 철저한 조사에 착수했다고 밝혔다.
이번 사건은 가로세로 약 1.5미터 크기의 원형 디스플레이 스크린(수중 애니메이션을 송출 중이었음)이 지지대 역할을 하던 강철 케이블 중 하나가 분리되면서 위태롭게 흔들리는 모습이 담긴 영상이 소셜 미디어에 공개되면서 큰 화제가 되었다.
경찰의 예비 조사 결과, 노후된 부품으로 인해 강철 와이어 로프가 느슨해지거나 끊어진 것으로 추정된다.
공항 관계자는 해당 디스플레이에는 추락 방지 안전 장치가 내장되어 있었으며, 사고 발생 시 즉시 작동하여 심각한 추락 사고를 막았다고 강조했다. 유지보수 엔지니어들은 이후 해당 설비를 안전하게 고정했으며, 공항 당국은 사고 원인 규명 및 공항 내 유사한 공중 설치물의 안정성과 안전성 강화를 위한 종합적인 점검을 할 에정이다.
Hong Kong Airport, Aerial Digital Display Screen Swaying Precariously
On the morning of Saturday, September 5, a circular electronic display screen suspended from the ceiling of the departure hall at Terminal 2 of Hong Kong International Airport fell several meters due to a malfunction, but an emergency safety device activated and caught the screen in mid-air.
Fortunately, there were no casualties, and authorities confirmed that there was no immediate danger to travelers. Hong Kong airport authorities stated that they are taking this incident seriously and have launched a thorough investigation into the cause of the mechanical failure.
The incident became a major topic of discussion after a video was released on social media showing the circular display screen (approximately 1.5 meters by 1.5 meters, which was broadcasting underwater animation) swaying precariously after one of the steel cables acting as its support detached.
Preliminary police investigations suggest that the steel wire rope may have loosened or snapped due to aging components.
Airport officials emphasized that the display was equipped with a built-in fall prevention safety device that activated immediately upon the incident, preventing a serious fall. Maintenance engineers subsequently secured the facility safely, and airport authorities plan to conduct a comprehensive inspection to determine the cause of the accident and enhance the stability and safety of similar aerial installations within the airport.
