홍콩 북부도심 대학 부지 다음 달 공개
홍콩정부가 북부도심(Northern Metropolis) 내 홍수루(Hung Shui Kiu) 지역의 대학 용지를 다음 달 공식 공개하며 고등교육 허브 조성에 속도를 낸다.
교육당국은 총 22헥타르 규모의 부지 3곳을 고등교육기관 유치를 위해 동시 개방한다고 밝혔다. 이번 입찰은 단독 대학뿐만 아니라 복수 학교의 공동 입찰도 허용하며 상·하한선 제한을 두지 않는다. 특히 북부도심 및 대만구(GBA)의 경제 발전 기여도, 연구실 및 시설 공유 여부가 주요 평가 기준으로 작용할 전망이다. 정부는 초기 자금으로 100억 홍콩달러의 대출금을 지원할 계획이다.
이와 함께 교육계 현안에 대한 입장도 밝혔다. 교육학 졸업생의 90% 이상이 이미 교직을 확보해 구직률이 1% 미만으로 안정세를 보이고 있으며, 2026/27 학년도 교과서 가격이 3.6% 상승함에 따라 출판사들과 협력해 비용 부담을 낮추는 방안을 강구 중이다.
또한 8개 공공 자금 지원 대학의 비지역 학생 입학 상한선이 40%로 확대된 가운데 평균 30%를 넘는 입학률을 기록하고 있으며, 다음 달부터는 48개 직접보조(DSS) 학교에서도 비지역 학생 선발 시범 사업이 시작된다고 덧붙였다.
University Sites in Northern Metropolis to Be Unveiled Next Month
The Hong Kong government is accelerating the creation of a higher education hub by officially unveiling university sites in the Hung Shui Kiu area of the Northern Metropolis next month.
Education authorities announced that they are simultaneously opening three sites totaling 22 hectares to attract higher education institutions. This bidding process allows for joint bids by multiple schools as well as individual universities, with no upper or lower price limits. Key evaluation criteria are expected to include contributions to the economic development of the Northern Metropolis and the Greater Bay Area (GBA), as well as the sharing of laboratories and facilities. The government plans to provide HK$10 billion in loans as initial funding.
Along with this, the government also outlined its stance on current issues in the education sector. It noted that over 90% of education graduates have already secured teaching positions, resulting in a stable job search rate of less than 1%. Furthermore, with textbook prices set to rise by 3.6% for the 2026/27 academic year, the government is exploring ways to reduce the financial burden in cooperation with publishers. It was also added that while the admission cap for non-local students at eight public-funded universities has been expanded to 40%, they are recording an average admission rate exceeding 30%, and a pilot program for selecting non-local students will begin at 48 Direct Assistance Schools (DSS) starting next month.
