MTR, 자율주행 차량 시험 운행 시작
웨스트 카우룬역 ↔카우룬역
MTR은 8월 19일, 웨스트 카우룬에서 자율주행 차량 시험 운행을 시작했으며, 내년 2분기에 홍콩 웨스트 카우룬역과 공항철도 카우룬역 간 환승 서비스를 도입할 예정이다.
이번 시험 운행에는 6세대 바이두 아폴로 자율주행 개인 차량 4대가 투입되어 두 역 사이의 지정된 노선을 운행한다.
초기 단계에서는 승객을 태우지 않고, 백업 운전자가 차량에 탑승하여 운행 상황을 모니터링하고 필요시 수동으로 제어한다.
MTR은 교통부의 승인을 받아 무인 승객 운행 시험으로 단계적으로 전환하기 전에 계약업체와 긴밀히 협력하여 시험 과정을 진행하고 검토할 것이라고 밝혔다.
MTR 홍콩 교통 서비스 국장인 윌슨 쾅 윙춘은 고속철도와 공항철도 간 연결성 개선이 철도-항공 복합 운송 서비스의 이점을 극대화하고 도시의 장기적인 발전을 지원할 것이라고 말했다.
현재 고속철도를 이용하는 승객들은 홍콩 웨스트 카우룬역에서 엘리멘츠 쇼핑몰을 통해 인근 카우룬역으로 이동하여 공항철도를 탑승할 수 있다.
새로운 서비스가 시작되면, 이용객들은 자율주행 차량을 이용해 두 역 사이를 직접 이동할 수 있게 된다. 웨스트 카우룬역에는 시내 체크인 및 수하물 위탁 서비스를 제공하는 전용 카운터도 설치될 예정이다.
MTR은 서비스 운영 방식 및 대상 승객층을 포함한 자세한 내용은 추후 발표할 것이라고 밝혔다.

West Kowloon Station ↔ Kowloon Station
On August 19, the MTR began test runs of autonomous vehicles in West Kowloon and plans to introduce a transfer service between Hong Kong West Kowloon Station and the Airport Rail Link Kowloon Station in the second quarter of next year.
Four 6th-generation Baidu Apollo autonomous private vehicles are being deployed for this test run, operating on a designated route between the two stations.
In the initial phase, the vehicles will not carry passengers; instead, a backup driver will be on board to monitor operations and take manual control when necessary.
The MTR stated that it will work closely with the contractor to conduct and review the testing process before gradually transitioning to driverless passenger operation trials, subject to approval from the Transport Department.
Wilson Kwang Wing-chun, Director General of MTR Hong Kong Transport Services, said that improving connectivity between the High Speed Rail and the Airport Rail Link will maximize the benefits of rail-air combined transport services and support the city's long-term development.
MTR Begins Test Runs of Autonomous Vehicles Currently, passengers using the high-speed rail can travel from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station to the nearby Kowloon Station via the Elements Shopping Mall to board the Airport Express.
Once the new service launches, passengers will be able to travel directly between the two stations using autonomous vehicles. Dedicated counters offering downtown check-in and baggage drop-off services are also scheduled to be installed at West Kowloon Station.
The MTR stated that further details, including the service's operational method and target passenger demographics, will be announced at a later date.
