홍콩 여성, '달리기 수익' 사기 피해 110만 홍콩달러 손실
유명인사들이 참석한 만찬에서 홍보
50대 홍콩 여성이 '달리기 수익'을 내세운 피라미드 사기에 속아 9개월 동안 110만 홍콩달러(약 1억 2천만 원) 이상을 잃었다.
경찰은 화요일, 사기 방지 페이스북 페이지인 사이버디펜더(CyberDefender)를 통해 이 사건의 자세한 내용을 공개하며, 높은 수익을 보장하는 사기성 투자 계획에 주의할 것을 당부했다.
사기는 피해자가 수년 동안 연락이 끊겼던 옛 지인으로부터 갑작스러운 전화를 받으면서 시작되었다. 지인은 피해자에게 홍보용 달리기 영상을 촬영할 참가자를 모집하는 '팀 리더' 역할을 맡아달라고 제안했다.
이후 피해자는 WhatsApp을 통해 자신을 '리 감독'이라고 소개하는 사람을 소개받았고, 이 사람은 영상 촬영 제작비를 충당하기 위한 자금 지원을 명목으로 지정된 암호화폐 플랫폼에 계좌를 개설하라고 지시했다. 약 한 달 후, 리는 회사가 매일 달리기 작업을 완료하면 높은 수익을 안겨주는 모바일 앱을 출시했다고 주장했다.
안정적인 수익 약속에 현혹된 여성은 지정된 암호화폐 지갑으로 자금을 이체하기 시작했다.
유명 인사들이 참석하는 호화로운 만찬에 여러 차례 초대받으면서 그녀는 사기 행각에 대한 신뢰가 커졌고, 9개월에 걸쳐 여러 차례에 걸쳐 110만 홍콩달러 이상을 입금했다. 피해자는 원금과 수익금을 인출하려는 요청이 반복적으로 차단되자 비로소 사기를 당했다는 사실을 깨달았다.

A Hong Kong woman in her 50s lost over HK$1.1 million (approximately 120 million KRW) over nine months after falling victim to a pyramid scheme promising "running earnings."
On Tuesday, police released details of the case via the anti-fraud Facebook page CyberDefender and urged caution regarding fraudulent investment schemes that guarantee high returns.
The scam began when the victim received a sudden phone call from an old acquaintance she had lost contact with for years. The acquaintance proposed that she take on the role of "team leader" to recruit participants for a promotional running video.
Subsequently, the victim was introduced via WhatsApp to a person who identified himself as "Director Lee." This individual instructed her to open an account on a designated cryptocurrency platform under the pretext of providing funds to cover the production costs of the video shoot. About a month later, Lee claimed that the company had launched a mobile app promising high earnings for completing daily running tasks. Enticed by promises of stable returns, the woman began transferring funds to a designated cryptocurrency wallet.
As she was repeatedly invited to lavish dinners attended by celebrities, her trust in the scam grew, and she deposited over 1.1 million Hong Kong dollars in multiple installments over a period of nine months. The victim only realized she had been scammed when her requests to withdraw her principal and profits were repeatedly blocked.
