B형 간염 관리 프로그램

2월 이후 약 3만 3천 명의 주민 참여

정부 지원 B형 간염 검진 및 관리 프로그램이 2월 시행 이후 약 3만 3천 명의 주민이 참여하여 목표치의 약 10%를 달성하며 긍정적인 반응을 얻고 있다.

보건복지부의 B형 간염 공동 관리 프로그램에 따라 가정의는 고위험군을 대상으로 B형 간염 위험 평가, 검진 및 장기 관리를 제공한다.

보건보호센터 공중보건서비스국의 보니 웡 춘콴 컨설턴트는 2020-2022년 인구보건조사를 바탕으로 홍콩 인구의 약 5.6%, 즉 20명 중 1명이 만성 B형 간염을 앓고 있다고 밝혔다.

이는 약 41만 명이 만성적이지만 종종 무증상 감염 상태로 살아가고 있음을 의미하며, 이들 대부분은 유아기에 백신 접종을 받지 않은 1988년 이전 출생자들이다.

또한, 이번 조사에서는 만성 B형 간염 보균자의 약 40%가 자신의 감염 사실을 모르고 있으며, 약 70%는 정기적인 의료 추적 관찰을 받지 않는 것으로 나타났다.

웡 박사는 만성 B형 간염이 수년간 무증상으로 지속될 수 있지만, 치료받지 않은 환자의 15~40%는 간경변이나 간암으로 진행될 수 있다고 밝혔다.

간암은 현재 홍콩에서 세 번째로 사망률이 높은 암으로, 매년 약 1,400명의 목숨을 앗아가고 있다.

웡 박사는 1988년 이전 출생자나 가족 또는 성 파트너 중 감염된 사람이 있는 등 고위험군에 속하는 사람들에게 조기 발견 및 치료를 위해 검사를 받을 것을 촉구했다.

Hong Kong's Hepatitis B Co-Care Scheme Attracts 33,000 Participants Since February  

According to the Department of Health, approximately 33,000 residents have enrolled in the government-subsidized Hepatitis B Co-Care Scheme since its launch in February 2026. The enrollment represents about 10% of its target quota (300,000 eligible high-risk individuals), drawing a positive public response.  

Under the scheme, family doctors collaborate with District Health Centres to provide risk assessments, free rapid diagnostic screening, and long-term subsidized management for high-risk populations.  

Key Public Health Insights

• Prevalence in Hong Kong:

  Dr. Bonnie Wong Chun-kwan, Consultant at the Centre for Health Protection, highlighted that 5.6% of Hong Kong's population (approx. 1 in 20 people) lives with chronic hepatitis B (CHB), amounting to around 410,000 people.  

• High-Risk Demographic:

  The majority of chronic carriers were born before 1988, prior to the implementation of the universal childhood vaccination program.  

• Low Awareness & Lack of Follow-Up:

  Survey data shows that about 40% of CHB carriers are unaware of their infection, and roughly 70% do not receive regular medical follow-up.  

• Risks of Untreated CHB:

  While chronic hepatitis B often remains asymptomatic for decades, 15% to 40% of untreated cases can progress to liver cirrhosis or liver cancer. Liver cancer is currently the third-deadliest cancer in Hong Kong, claiming around 1,400 lives annually.  

• Call for Early Screening:

  Health authorities strongly urge individuals in high-risk categories—including those born before 1988 or individuals with infected family members/sexual partners—to get tested early to benefit from safe, effective long-term antiviral treatment.
