남미축구연맹(CONMEBOL) 회장 두밍키스는 2030년 월드컵 참가국 수를 48개국에서 64개국으로 늘릴 것을 제안했다.

두밍키스 회장은 소셜 미디어를 통해 2030년 월드컵은 우루과이, 아르헨티나, 파라과이에서 개최될 예정이며, 64개국 참가로 축구 100주년을 기념할 수 있는 환상적인 기회라고 말했다. 

국제 축구는 세계에 열려 있을 때만 번성할 수 있다고 강조하며, 참가국 수를 48개국으로 늘리는 것은 더 폭넓은 참여가 더 많은 기회를 창출할 수 있음을 보여주는 것이라고 설명했다. 

2030년 월드컵은 스페인, 포르투갈, 모로코가 공동 개최하고, 우루과이, 아르헨티나, 파라과이가 각각 1930년 우루과이에서 열린 제1회 월드컵 100주년을 기념하여 한 경기씩 개최할 예정이다.

만약 참가국 수가 64개국으로 확대된다면, 총 경기 수는 현재 104경기에서 128경기로 급격히 증가하여 개최국들에게 상당한 부담을 줄 것이다.

• Host Countries: The 2030 World Cup is set to be co-hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, with Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay each hosting one match to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the inaugural 100-year milestone in Uruguay (1930).
